i have been trting to decide a filter setup for my 125g tank i'll have 7 red bellies in it,right now there in a 65g with a xp3 and 2 aquaclear 70's i have been looking into the eheim 2260 2078e and the 2080 and the fluvalfx5 i will start the new filter on the 125g maybe also add a aquaclear 110 then when the tank is cycled i'll move the xp3 over also. i have heard mixed reveiws on all these filters but i assume the eheims are the best but they are expensive so i have been thinking fx5 or another xp3 witch i have been very happy with but the flow is weak i need more flow in the tank.also i'll been using sand and need something that can keep my tank clean any ideas?

I've had my xP3 for almost a year now and the flow has slowed down tremendously. It turns out that my powerjet nozzle had become defective, once I took it off the flow was back to the level of when I first got the xP3. I think 2 xP3s will do the trick on a 125.

anyone have any input on the question? what be be a good set up on a 125g?

If you're crafty, the best bang for your buck is a DIY wet/dry. A quick search will yield a ton of ideas.

just curious - how can an open nozzle become defective?

was it clogged?

I have one and use it constantly. just wondering.

thanks

I'm pretty sure that it is clogged but I don't see a way that I can open it up to see and clean. In the position where it acts as a venturi, the flow is very greatly reduced compared to when it was new. In the position where it does not act as a venturi, the flow is half there but also shoots water straight up through the air intake.

I have 2 AC 110s and a FX5 on mine. Crowded that too!

This is exactly what I've got on my 125's also. Each only has an Oscar and a smaller Cichlid tankmate so it's overkill but keeps the tanks clean. Can't imagine what you'd need for 7 Pacus...? A bigger tank I'd say. Unless you weren't talking about Pacu and there's another kind of "red belly" fish.

I think he is refering to pirhana. And I would say the fx5 and ac110 would be a good and a powerhead to move around your water so detrius is not accumulating to much in your sand.

On my 125 I have a wet dry from proquatics and a xp3, works well for me, but I have only had mine set up for about a month.
