I have had my 125 gallon set up for quite some time running off of 2 fluval canisters and 1 aquaclear filter, I recently bought another 125 and a 180 that I will be setting up soon. I plan on having all of these tanks in my basement together and I want to figure out the most efficient way to filter them all. (efficient in both functionality and electrical consumption). Is there a way to plumb all of the tanks together and filter them that way? I figure its going to be pretty costly to run each tank individually and thought maybe there is a way to plumb them all together through some seriously powerful filtering set-up. Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Nothing? Oh well, I figure I need to run them independently anyways because the tanks will need different water parameters. So I guess my question now is should I just stick with two canister filters and a HOB filter for each tank or is there a better way to go about it? I know there are so many options I just want to try and set it up very efficiently keeping electrical costs in mind.

the problem with running them from a central system is that if by chance you get ich in your tank, you have 400 gallons to heat up to 85 degrees and 400 gallons to treat with meds.

its better to do them seperately if possible.

I would try and pick up a couple of Rena XP3's (very cost effective) and spread your filtration around.

Thanks. Ya I figured it would probably be more bad than good to run them together. The 180 gallon I just picked up actually came with two rena xp3's.. I didn't know if they were a good canister or not to use as I've always used fluval so Im glad to hear the name come up. Should I add a HOB as well as the 2 rena canisters for the 180? I have two fluval 404's and a HOB on my 125 so I figure I should do the same if not more for the 180. I plan on setting my other 125 up for a planted discus tank which I know needs super great water quality so should I do anything different for it? Thanks again!

I would use an AC-110 on each (or equiv) as well as the canisters. Your better off not running them all to a common sump as stated above.

Edit: I have a couple of the XP-3's and have had nothing but satisfaction from them.
