Well, so far i am planning to have a tetratec 600 as a prefilter and hook that up to a eheim 2217 filter.
Aslo going to put a emperor 400 or an ac110 in.

The tank is going to have a single channa aurantimaculata in it.

I do daily water changes.

Does this setup sound ok?

it sounds like a good set up.. but it will out grow that tank...

with daily waterchanges I would just do the eheim... everything else just seems :screwy: to me for just one fish... if mechanical filtration is needed then maybe the ac110 with all sponges....

add an fx5 and some uv

...Now that's overfiltration!! A turnover of roughly 18 times an hour...:nilly:

I agree with Nic...with daily water changes, you don't need all that filtration running...I would think the Eheim alone would handle it.

I have not read the other's responses yet....Hmmm...

Overfiltration on a 50:
$40-100(depending on the tools you already have)
Drill holes on back to upper corners for overflow...
Setup a 10-20g sump, WET/DRY setup....
Fill with sponges....
and/or
$200
Fluval Fx5

$90 each
FilStar Xp3 Canister filter
Fill with crush coral and snails

$40 each
(2) Aqua Clear 101
Excellent Mechanical filtration

Some kind of powerhead for circulation....O yeah, toss in a UV light....

I think one AC and one Canister is the way to go.

A single 305/405 cannister, one E400, and a single hydro5...nothing you can fit in a 50 will tax that set up....no need for anything else. Overfiltration divides the workload and extends the servace times but it will NEVER replace water testing/water changes or even do much to change the WC intervals. In other words....you CAN in fact over filter an aquarium.
