a mountain ..far far away
picking up 180 this weekend ..... not familiar with the sump or wet dry ... so i plan to put 2 penguin 350 HOB's and a canister filter rated for 100gal ...... would this be sufficient ? ... if not what would you recommend as for a HOB/canister combo that would work ..... it will be a grow out tank for 2-3" pbass / a 7"tsn / and maybe a moto ray in a couple months...... and yes, there will be a divider in the tank until the pbass get big enough to stay out of the mouth of the tsn ...:D ........ my eventual plan is to build a sump out of an old tank ... but i may not have it ready until mid summer ...... thanks for your help..

I'm gonna have to say that's not enough filtration. If you dont wanna go with a wet/dry, get a big Eheim or an FX5 (FX5 is rated for 400g). A good rule of thumb is to take the manfacturers rating and divide it by 2. So if you have a canister filter rated for 100g, you should be using it on a 50g tank. I have an FX5 and a HOB on my 100g. My 210g that I just picked up will have 2 HOB filters, an FX5, and a Del Rey wet/dry that is rated for 240g.

There is no such thing as too much filtration :)

you might want to try a pair of AC110's along with your FX5 alot easier to work with than the penguins just my .02

I agree, I have penguins on my 150 and am starting to switch them out with the AC110's. The good thing with the AC's compared to the Penguins other than them being easier to work with is that they have a flow rate of up to 500gph compared to the 350gph of the Penguins. They also can hold more media and are very easy to personalize the media you are using.

penguins are the yugo of marineland get 2 emperor 400's use the 4 extra baskets for bio and run a canister of your liking. ac or emp could go on endlessly, so for me emp400 others ac110 either way pengiun out. but what the heck do i know, i runn 2 emp and mag350.
