I've only had canister filters in the past but I'm reading that sumps are the way to go.

I had a FX6 in the past and it worked great but maintenance was a pain.

Any recommendations and also what might be the price range?

Sumps forever. U can make a sump out of almost anything that holds water for extremely minimal cost if u have any desire to DIY things or u can buy one for $100 - sky limit depending on your needs and budget. I have at least one thread on here titled 4000gal build that shows how I put that system together, but there are many members on here w many other more applicable sump setup threads for your size system. After I built my first sump a long time ago, I went that way for all my tanks since. Made my life so much easier maintenence wise personally.

I made a sump out of a brute trashcan and a couple drilled buckets. It's in an unfinished part of my basement, so I didn't need it to be pretty but I wanted it cheap, efficient and not overrun with mulm.

Maintenance is a breeze.View attachment 1535866
Nice,..I'm all about DIY so I don't care just that sump systems are completely foreign to me. I'd prefer to hide whatever I can under my stand but have limited space of what can fit.

I have an extra 10, 29, and 37 gallon tank but not sure what can fit.

What's easier is it the amount of time to maintain sump systems? Canister was a bit annoying for my 125 back in the day but waters were crystal clear
