what size sump should i use for this tank?what kind of pump i have an idea for the whole set-up, but need to know what kind of sump idea, pump size, water capacity, etc. if i should use a tank, or if i could make a make shift sump using two 60 gallon totes or something on those lines. i just need to know really water flow and pump speed.

ok, i might as well have an fx5 running on it as well.

I have a 460 right now that I am setting up. Here is what I have: 120 gallon sump 48x24x24, it is just gonna be a basic 3 chamber sump with scrubbies. reeflo hammerhead pump rated at 5800 gph. I am hoping to run 3-1.5" overflows out the back of the tank with 1.5" return lines. I will more than likely add a couple cannisters down te road purely for mech filtratation.

Based on what I am dealing with right now, the 3 1.5" lines will not keep up with 5800gph. I have 2 1.5" lines and they are just keeping up with a 1500gph pump.

it only has two over flows. each corner. i have to talk to the guy about bulk head sizes as im not quite sure what the best size would be on this tank to keep up with a high water flow pump.

Here is a link to a flow chart that I was using that I dont believe is accurate.http://flexpvc.com/WaterFlowBasedOnPipeSize.shtmlHere are some flow rates that I was sent that seem to be closer to what I am seeing in my tank. If you have vertical bulkheads at the water line, cut these number by about a 3rd.size _GPM __GPH 1/2 = 2.50 = 150 3/4 = 5.63 = 337.51.0 = 10.0 = 6001.25=15.6 = 937.51.5 = 22.5 = 13502.0 = 40.0 = 2400

im a bit lost on the math there, but with the link not working im really up a creek without a paddle on the whole equation thing lol
