I am planning on upgrading to at least a 55 hopefully a 75 in a month or so after I get my taxes back any recommendations for filtration this will mostly be a poly tank

will put in current fish in 20 grow out
1 x senegal about 5"
1x african brown knife ~4.5 "
2x three spot gourami
1x rapheal cat ~2.3-3"

will add when they grow up a bit
1x albino sen ~2"
1x delhzi ~2"
currently in 10 gallon with the guppies

Also I would like to move the fish in the 20 to the large tank and the small polys to the 20 how do I do this with the fewest tank cyclings ?
the 20 is running a top fin hob that came with the tank the 10 has a small sponge and an under gravel
I can easily get another small to med sponge filter for either current tank

I have a XP3 and a emp400 running on my 75g

Eheim classic or pro series...find the one rated for your size tank then buy the next size up. Invest in quality, it will save you time and money in the long run.

BTW dont bother with the 55 unless room is really tight, the 75 is only 4" wider if I remember right. You'll get the 55 and then wish you had bought a 75g.

Eheim 2217 would be my choice too.

I've always been a fan of Magnums, especially when working in conjunction with bio-wheels on the return. I have recently purchased a XP3 for my 40gal planted and am VERY satisfied. I thought i ran high on my filter turnovers until I saw some of these guys :eek:.

You need 7-12 full tank cycles per hour so that's what's important.
55gal = min 350GPH canister
75gal = min 500GPH

I'd PM johnPTC for an FX5 $200 delivered!

thats not always true i have a fluval 305 on a 55 and its fine i do water changes a little more but id prefer new water versus water running through a filter im not a huge filter guy but all my tanks are great and water parameters are locked in
