Im in the process for setting up a 600gal acrylic aquarium. Its 8x4x2.5, and i was wondering what is the best process for filtering this beast. Its not drilled but has an external overflow that can be used for filtration. Its gunna be housing a load of polypterus, with some geophagus, and a black arowana. What should I do?

I would run a canister that has a backwash option. I used Ultima II sand filters at the store I was running and have heard that the Ocean Clear 354 also has backwash options. I use and love FX5s but being able to just turn a lever and drain AND clean the filter during a water change is invaluable.

For that size tank you are looking at one designed for a small pond.

You could do a big sump (extra volume, a place to house aggressive or beat up fish) and from the sump pump into a sand filter and back into the tank.

depending on the location of your tank, you could DIY a wet&dry sump setup. That's what i did for my 500g. I build wet and dry (used 120g tank) sump in my backyard with all the pluming routed from my tank.

With the water change for that beast you don't to do water change in your house. It take me 5min to do water change and i don't even touch my display tank. All the dirty water are used to water my plants. I hooked up a drip system but decide not to used it cause i would have wasted the drain water since it ran through my gutter.

wet/dry filtration

i would do a large sump and maybe a pressurized bead filter as mentioned above...

Wow, You bought that beast huh?

yep Tenecor - 8L, 5H, 2.5W:popcorn: Pick up got moved to Saturday the 18th - bought 3 pairs of 200lb capacity suction grips:)

Just need to locate a guy local to fab/weld a frame and then I'll prep the tank. Looking at Feb/March for open house:drool:
