Need some ideas, planning a large plywood aquarium for a blue Costa Rican dovii. I'm not sure what kind of filtration I'm looking for. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Could do a drip line or a larg sump/drum with mix of k1 and ceramic/lava rock.

Good time of year to buy Pool Filters, they cheap rn.
If i ever get toward the 500g tank size I will use a diatamaceous earth pool filter (particularly since I have one in storage).

Quite frankly, with such a large tank and small bioload, you can save some money and scale back a lot. An FX5 or similar is more than enough for that combo. Heavier stocking and you would need to step up the filtration plans. Each approach has its own pros/cons. Knowing what matter most to you will help us narrow in on a suggestion.

Are you after cool factor at all?
Is budget a limiting factor or set limit?
Do you think the stock list will change in the very near future?
Are you targeting a certain turnover ratio?
Are you opposed to a sump?
