I was just woundering for big freshwater tanks. Like 100 gal and up what kind of filtration systems do you need to get. The only kind i know about are the little 50 gal ones that have the filtration pads you change out.

One 72 x 30 x 30 tank has a 3 x 2 x 18 sump underneath it with pond matting prefilter, bioballs and biotic rock as biofilter then a 3400 lph return pump, coupled off that is a trickle wet/dry filter with 30 kgs of coral gravel to buffer the water and keep the pH constant, also on that tank is an Eheim 2228 cnister filter

The other 72 x 30 x 30 is filtered by 1 Eheim bucket type filter that flows 2400 lph is filled with matting as a refilter then bioballs and biotic rock as biomedia and a Rena XP3

Got one of these Eheim 2329

Eheim Filter- Heater Combo
Eheim External unit for tank size up to 600l.

Eheim Pump output 1050l/h
Filter circulation 550l/h
Delivery head 2,00 m Ws
Filter volume 7,3l
Power consumption 25 + 210 W
Dimensions approx. mm 415 x 210 x 300

very good got it on a 6x2x2 works realy well infact now got eheims on all my tanks but thats my thing

most eheims externals will do the trick if it was me i wouldn't touch fluval with a barge pole. but similar to stotty, touching things with bargepoles is my thing...

we are on MFK a 100 gallon is a medium tank here... on my 105 i have an under gravel filter on half the tank with 2 powerheads on top.. and i have 2 aquaclear 70 on the back. looking to put on a small to medium canister filter uner the tank.

Consider Marinelands Tide Pool II, Very inexpensive wet and dry filter. Its extremely reliable and easy to maintain. But, I love it because of the BioWheel, its not something I can make as a DIY project. Plus, the wheel never has to be washed of debris, since the water is filtered through a filter pad and charcoal first. You got room in the sump for a heater, more media and any add ons.
