hi guys , ive been thinking that instead of having 1 big filter for this size tank (330 gallon) that maybe 3 filters that do about 4500 liters each ( about 12000 is needed from the research that ive done- 10 to 12 tmies the volume is that rite? so that would previde my with a bit more filtration than needed) with 3 under gravel jets coming off each 1 as well as there basic filtration to any stop dead spots would be a better idea? what do you all think?

What fish do you intend to stock it with ?
What kind of filters were you considering ?
What was you idea for the undergravel jets and supply plumbing ?

There is a very basic “Rule of Thumb” that suggests 10x turnover rates…

This is a very good “Rule of Thumb” but with all such generalized suggestions, it overlooks any and every possible detail of your particular tank. For a 330 gallon tank I highly suggest you design a more customized filtration approach that ignores “Rule of Thumb” type information and considers literal details of your particular situation…

Now if it were only that easy…

DawnMarie definitely has the right approach. Tell us about the tank you want…

In addition to the questions above, how much and what type of décor do you plan on using? Solid objects reduce water flow and decorations provide crevices for waste to get lodged in. So a bare bottomed tank with no décor can get away with a lot less water movement than a fully decorated tank… but since “beneficial bacteria” grows on surfaces, a tank full of décor has less of a ‘need’ for bio media…

So I suggest you plan the tank from fish, to décor, to water movement, to filtration… not the other way around…

Howdy,

My Eheim 2262 is doing great on 220 gal, I'd imagine two 2262s would be a good choice for a 300 gal.

Pshhhh....just get 1 AC110...its such a ballin filter nothing can touch it LOL j/k. I think with 8-10x canister turn over rate your tank flow will be just fine. If your worried about dead space behind some decor or somthing just add a powerhead. As for your idea of makeing a RUGF comeing off the output of said canisters (thats what your suggesting right?) I never liked them b/c I always had little particles floating around from it. I would much rather vac the stuff out during a WC than have bitty particles floating around all the time.

A single AC110 on a 330 gallon tank ?
You won't hear me say this very often, but, that seems a little under filtered.LOL j/k

As to your RUGF comment, how big was the tank and what GPH were you running ?

LOL ...sorry I cant help but take cheap shot's at the "AC's are GOD filters!!! with more GPH than Niagra and more bio than the Rio Negro itself!" club. Anywhoo down to biz, I had a RUGF on a 140 back before I joined the army (sold it once the war started), it was a drilled tank and I ran what ammounted to 4 spray bars along the bottom of the tank, I used a 1600gph pump to run it but with a T split on the return + a couple of 90* bends and 5'+ of head it was probably pushing 1200gph im guessing? And it worked great, water paramiters were excelent! But like I mentioned, every time I fed, or one of the Oscars would take a huge dump it would take FOREVER for all the little particulate mater to get filterd out b/c it just would not settle which clean wise is a good thing b/c it all ended up in the poly fill and the bottom of the tank stayed nice and clean. But visually it would suck waiting for stuff to settle after a feeding or dump.
