Hi all I recently bought a 180 and it is currently stocked with an oscar, JD, R.B snook and a jag. I have a fluval 305, and 3 HOB filter that are rated for 350 gph. I was wondering if this is enough filtration for this tank? I've never owned anything bigger than a 90 and I am new to large volume tanks.

Well since you already have some filters you could add on 2 more fluval 304 or 404's for cheap on ebay.If you do not overstock you could do this over time.On a tank that size i usualy like to make a homemade wet/dry.

I would definitely go with a DIY wet/dry but if you want to stick with what you got, I would add 1 or 2 more canisters like a Rena xP3.

yep i second the fx5,,,love mine, but would love to do a diy sump, wet/dry system, havent got the nerve to do that

or 2 cascade 1500 and 2 cascade 300 HOB's. thats a 600gph turn over rate. OR...yeah, a FX5.

I have thought about a DIY sump but I am low on funds after by the 180 and supplies. Anyone any experience with an lower cost DIY sump? All fish in the tank are six inches or under except for oscar hes huge, so I think i have some wiggles room, any sump ideas greatly appreciated.

you need at least 4 more canister filters minimum...or your a terrible person for torturing fish......................haha, jk mike, i think one more good quality filter ought to do it, i need to pick one up myself...just short on funds

Here is my 210 more heavily stocked than your 180 with the following filtration:

2 fluval 305's
2 AC 110's
1 Penguin 350

You should be fine but another good canister wouldn't hurt. Mine stays clean like this all the time.
