Hi,
i've just placed an order for a 240 gal tank and can't decide which filter to buy, i've picked out the Eheim 2080 pro3 and the Fluval FX5. I was thinking either two Eheim's or one of each, but if anyone can recommend a better filter please do.

Thanks.

One of each would be great. Bio would be handled by the incredible amount of bio media in the 2080 and most of the mechanical and some bio held down by the FX5

I would space one on each side of the tank :) but im sure you knew that.

I would build a sump. I love my FX5 on my 150, but when I got my 300 I decided to try building a very simple wet/dry sump. I have not had any reading over 0ppm for ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate since filter cycled. It's very low maintenance, and cost me about $50 to do. My tank has a 17" Clown Knife, 13" Silver Arowana, 10" mono, 10" Asian upside down catty, and a 10" Red Belly Pacu. They are messy and my sump handles it all. I used a rubbermaid storage container.
