So i have a 10 gallon tank planted with a whisper filter i do not know what size but i have a mesh bag in it with filter whole and carbon with ammonia crystals .

I just went and picked up an old aqua clear 30 filter (a few years old), it has one foam pad at the bottom of the media basket. I am wondering what to put in it. I do not want to take the time and get carbon every few weeks. Is there any media that I can use other than the carbon. I have filter wool, straws, more foam, fishing line and some philodendron, gravel. Is there anything I can use for a bio-media that I have listed? I have am sword in there, java fern, micro moss balls, shrimp, drift wood .

Also have a fluval shrimp substrate with sand bottom.

If anyone has a good idea I would be happy for the help.

since its a planted tank i wouldnt worry so much about bio filtration.
if it were me i would just go 70% matts & etc and 30% ceramic rings or something.

I also have a ? about filtration on my 100g i have a canister filter on my cichlid tank it has sand in it will a whisper 60 be good enoph to filter my cichlid tank ? or will it get to much sand in it to work i have 3 whisper 60's what would you suggest ?
