Well it looks like I'll have a new 125g to play with in the next week or so. I've got a quick question regarding filtration. My options are as follows:

1. 2x Eheim 2217

2. 1x FX5

I'm leaning towards the dual Eheims because I already have one and adding another won't cost more than $100 whereas the Fluval will run me doubt that.

My plans for the tank are pretty simple. I'm going to do sand as a substrate, and focus on eartheaters. I'm planning on 3-5 Geo. Tapajos red heads and 3-5 Geo. Altifrons. I'm also planning some livebearers and clown loaches as well.

I love the FX5's but I also always recomend having a number of the same filters when ever possible. The cost factor alone would leave you with a lot of extra money for a couple of HOB units if needed.

I say pick up another 2217 and a replacement part or two then stagger the maintance. If they need a little help down the line it's a simple mater to add a HOB or two later on.
Be sure that you keep the pick up tubes a good 4" above the sand or use a foam pre-filter on the intakes.

I'd go with the FX5. Could probably get it on ebay for around the cost of the 2 2217s. I hate the way the classic eheims are setup with inlet on the bottom. I can't wait to get rid of my 2215.
