Afternoon, I was hoping I could get some info on some filter systems for my 75g I am currently working on. The end stock list will be 1-2 EBJD's, 2-3 'fancy' plecos (3-5" range), small school of tetras and a small shoal of loaches (possibly yoyo's - maybe clowns if I decide to upgrade to a 200gallon in 2-4 years)

The tank will be planted with anubias, java fern, java moss and maybe crypts.. still not sure on those yet since JD's will likely route them up as well as the loaches.

Currently I have an emp 400 on the back keeping the tank cycled for the time being. I was looking to add a canister filter to it and have been reading a lot but get a bit confused after awhile... there is a lot of reading. These are the filters I was looking at:

Eheim 2076 Pro 3e
Filstar xp-3
Few lower model Eheims

I'd like to stick between 150-300$ (pro 3e I can get for 315$ but it doesnt include any media)

Does the emp 400 provide enough biofiltration? Should the canister filter be a mech filter specificically because of the biofiltration on the emp400?

I plan to have a UV sterilizer equipped to a powerhead with a prefilter sponge on it instead of hooking it up to the canister filter. I'll be doing weekly water changes but I want to make sure I can keep this water as pristine as possible since the EBJD's tend to be finicky with water conditions.

Thanks a lot!

i would just do 2 hob's like
ur emperor 400
plus an ac110
and an airstone or sponge filter and ur good 2 go ;)

Those Tetras and YoYo's will become snacks for the EBJD's but everything else looks good.

Really? Most EBJD owners I've spoken to have said that they do fine with them, since the EBJD's don't show near the aggression the normal JD's show. The yoyo's are too big and quick for the EBJD's to get their mouths around even if they wanted to I thought?

Really? I have an AC50 and an emp 400 on my 55gallon overstocked with mbuna and it definitely keeps it clean and clear. I just thought with the wastes of the plecos and EBJD's would be a bit much for 2 HOB's.

2x Eheim 2217 = 2x $140 all inclusive

Use the hob as mech and load the Emp 400 with sponges, use the canister for bio. Easier to clean the sponges in the hob than in a canister.

Jumping on this bandwagon ! I love these filters silent and both running is only 30 watts of electricity! excellent bio capacity to boot!

2x 140 for 280$ total? What media would I use specifically? Use them in conjunction with the emp400?

thanks
They come packed with the perfect media setup. And yes use them in conjunction with the emperor (Keep the emperor for its mechanical abilities possibly load with sponges you could wring out once a week) Not too sure how the emp setups are but sponges in an HOB and a nice big bio capacity eheim is a big time winner on my tank:)

Fluval 404s are $85 each on ebay, free shipping. I have 2 on a 75, they work fine and are very quiet.
