I am thinking about building a 6ft x 4ft x 2ft (roughly 350 gallons) pond in my basement. Originally I wanted to house a pair of brownbanded sharks and a large moray, but a friend on mine has me thinking about an Arowana and a couple of rays. I am a saltwater guy and I've never owned a freshwater tank. I am not sure what kind of filtration to put on a FW tank this size and for these fish. Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I really big wet dry would do quite nice.
If you want aro's you may consider making the pond a little longer though.

Welcome to MFK good to see another hoosier.

What part of the state are you from?

How long would you suggest then? I'm still throwing ideas around.

I'm in Fort Wayne.

I would go atleast 8 feet long

Will they jump out just because or do they have to have a reason like not being kept under the right parameters? A LFS has a small (8 or 9") black arowana in there 5ft x 5ft x 3ft cube with just a net strung arcoss the top. Will that work?

a fairly strong net would work, or make the pond walls higer and dont fill it all the way.
They jump for no apparent reason a lot of the time. Maybe they see a fly or a bird and want it....they do it in the wild for food.

yeah the net would work

Is a wet/dry all you guys use for filtration? Do you grow any algaes to suck up excess nutrients? Or just Bio-Balls or what? Is a protien skimmer of anyuse in a FW tank?

All I use is a wet dry with a prefilter and bioballs. A skimmer wont do much for a freshwater tank besides airation.
