in the now!!
Ok filtration should i go with the fx5 for more mechanical or the Ehiem pros for the whole package my sump i iam going to try two tubs one bio and matts one with hydro ponics and pump return so how about opinions?:Dforgot to give tank size its 180 and is going to house preditors. pbass the second phase of there growout.

nobody! dont tell me nobodys got opinions!!!

from an fx5 owner, get the eheim. i will be replacing mine with a 2260 when funds allow.

I think you should design your sump to not need the canister...

do tell nut case actually its an old tank drilled 6 times 10 x10 inches glass overflow right side left side drilled in same place no overflow but could have some glass cut easy enough. so i could have as many as 4 returns everything drilled for 1 inch internal measurment 1 7/8 hole suggest away nutcase i want to hear ideas right now its circulating in my garage so i can design the way i want.!

Since the sump is mainly bio i would say Fx5 if you really want to. Instead of wasting money you can get some micron pads for the sump or micron socks and some powerheads in the tank and you will be set.

with a sump, you can adjust everything to fit your specific needs.
jet nozzles on the return, or the simple addition of a well placed powerhead will greatly improve the circulation in the tank, and mechanical function of your sump.
then all you need is some $5 poly-fill/ quilt batting in your sump to increase the filtration of even tiny particles.
theres no need for micron filters, diatom filters, or additional canisters. a well designed sump will keep even a heavily stocked tank "crispy"

I was toying with this same Idea, an FX5 full of poly fill made for a tempting mech filter but I realized I would not have quite enough space under my tank. I would suggest either makeing a mech specific part of your sump, either a 5g bucket filled with poly fill or some filter socks. For the rest of the "sump" I would pack it with plants, they beat out bio balls or pot scrubbies every time!
Here is a great post you might like to read.
