I'm getting a 90G in a couple of weeks and have already planned to use inline filtration on it. At first I was going to use two canister filters like an Eheim 2028, but now that I think of it - I want something with excellent mechanical capabilities - bio is secondary, this is a heavily planted tank. I'm thinking of using the Nu-Clear (similar to Ocean Clear). http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/nuclear.html . My question is that since the setup is designed to run two filters (it has 4 bulkheads, two outflow and two inflow) can I run the two return hoses using a Y-fitting into the external pump and then run another Y-fitting after the water has passesed through all the canisters to split it back into two for the two outflows? I assume the Y-fitting would need to be larger, like an ID 3/4"x3/4"x1"?

You may have flow problems. The water will take the path of least resistance simliar to an air pump. I'd say one would flow higher than the other and you may even kill the flow rate on the filter.

Good point. No wonder why the Eheim 2080 has two intakes and one outake.

So only the other choice is to run two canisters the way I had it planned out the first time?

Running two systems is always preferable, at least in my opinion, due to the possibility of an unexpected breakdown. I've used nu-clear once and they seem to be a very close clone of the ocean clears. sounds like a nice sealed pressure system.

Thanks. Keep the suggestions coming.

I plan on running the 100 micron followed by a 25 micron filter, my only worry is that the 100 micron will get clogged fairly regularly. Would I need to add another Nu-Clear canister before the 100 micro filled with nothing but sponges just to avoid that?

You can easilly make a foam sleeve to go over the 100 mic cartrage. I used them on the OC's and it worked really well. All you need is a roll of filter material of your choice and a sewing machine.

P.S. The complete sleeve slips over the outside of the cartrage and can be rinsed out or changed between cartrage servaces.

Yeah, I would say multiple filters is better than one on a tank that size not just for unexpected breakage but also water clarity is going to be superb. I have 2 rena XP3 filters on my 125 and use 4 microfiltration pads on each and my water is crystal.
