Filtration on a budget

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've been using these in my fishroom on my 40s and 55s, I use the 75 gallon model is $40. I use canisters on my big show tanks too, but they do not create much air flow/circulation. I don't use carbon in my canisters and put it in my hangon filters so its easy to take out if I have to treat a tank. I use the 75 model on my festae breeder tanks and they are spawning so water quality has to be good.

dont get those i got one and the part that straps down the top broke,.

I bought 2 of the CF400s prolly 3 months ago and have been really happy with them. Can't be compared to a FX5 but for the price they do the job.
Yes the are a bit on the cheap side but you just have to be carefull when taking it apart and putting it back together! I would buy another with out thinking twice. Worth the savings!

Yeah those look like the SunSun filters you can get off ebay. check it every once in a while and you might be able to get it even cheaper! I've been torn on getting one or not. Guess I'm waiting for a good deal to pop up. If I'm going cheap, might as well do it right!

They are the same filters as the sunsun. They are all made in the same factory but have a variety of names, it all depends which company buys them!.
I have been using them now for over 2 years and have never had a problem. Some folk maybe put off because they are cheap but i have used eheims (still do on one tank) that cost at least triple what these do and to be honest i cant see that they do the job 3 times better!.

I have heard it may be difficult to get replacement parts on the cheaper filters but considering the last overhaul i did on an eheim wet/dry cost me over £100, it would be cheaper to just buy a new sunsun filter every time!
