Hello, I'm new to the forum, well 1st post at least. I've been reading and reading over all of your wonderful experiences and woes. I have a 150G FW mixed african cichlid tank. I am currently running 2 AC110's and 2 Hydro VI sponge filters. was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or comments on this setup. The water pram's are great, 0 ammo, 0 nitrites, 20 nitrates. tank has been up for a month now. I used media from another 2 established tank i have (a 37G bowfront and a 20G long). Tank cycled really quickly, no fishies were harmed in the cycling process. Just wanted to say hello to all you wonderful people. You all seem very knowledgeable, and I look forward to reading more post and posting more myself. I'm gonna head over to the DIY section and post the stand and mini canopy i built. See ya soon!

if the params are good then leave it alone. and i dont think you need the sponge filter anymore. you probably dont have any current but i would leave it if its working. dont fix it if it aint broke

My 150 is run with an Eheim 2080 and an aquaclear. Very easy to maintain, and very clear.

May not need it, but it isn't hurting to have them. I would leave them.

like everyone else said, dont fix what isnt broken, if anything in your params goes bad do some water changes then look about filters. welcome to mfk btw :)

it is not just the more filtration the better u need the right type of filtration other wise u just end up with a headache

Because fish can grow, and require more filtration. Better too much filtration, then a too many dead fish.

those 2 power filters and 2 sponge filters can handle the bio load in that tank no problem. the only problem you could have is if your way over stocked. everyone underestimates the bio filtration of sponge filters.

People also don't think about a filter going down. Redundancies are good, but redundancies that can handle a tank of that size.
