I got a small problem but nothing major-I just dont know how to go about fixing it the right way,and could use some help.

My problem is my overflow is currently up and running-It works fine as is...But it's not proper so to speak-
My overflow is roughly 17 inches wide by roughly 3 foot tall.It sits at an angle in the corner of my tank...My problem is at the top of the overflow (and exscuse me I dont know the right term to use) there is suppose to be a thing that looks like a comb (turned upside down) that has the slots in it for the water to flow through---My tank does not have that part-
My tank is a custom made tank-It uses some pretty thick glass-I can't seem to find a way to solve this problem--I really could use this part on my tank.So any help to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated-

I have thought about useing some thicker acrylic and just cutting some slots into it and then silicone into place-But I am unasure on how wide to cut slots and also how tall to make them for correct flow...But I am also unasure if this would be a right way to go about it----

Just looking for idea's that other's have done in the past-

Thanks for your time atleast....

You really don't need it unless you're sucking a bunch of stuff into the overflow. If that's the case, what you have planned would work. Just make the gaps 1/4" wide spaced about 1/2" apart. That should do the trick. If you find water flowing over it, you'll just need more spaces cut into it.
