I'm looking to purchase a 125 gallon tank and had a question about filtration. It comes with two Penguin Bio Wheel 350 filters on the tank (they are made for 75 gallon tanks). How would this filtration work vs. a canister filter? Is this adequate filtration? I've had one on my 55 gallon tank for two years and have yet to have any problems with them.

Those filters are garbage. see if you can sell them to someone who doesn't know better. (if try craigslist)

Please, don`t hold back..how do you really feel..

Like was said, would all depend on your stock.
My 55, overstocked mbuna, has a pair of 350s on it and they are doing a great job.

bio-wheel i not powerful enough for 125 gallons.
Some canister/sump people always seem to think all the biological activity is in their holy "BIO" media, when in fact it is throughout the tank as well.
If it isn`t bio media, I guess the bacteria keep going, untill it see`s the "bio media" sign, and settles only there.

lol preach it brother

#1 well said.

For that tank, you will probably need to supplement those filters. I have two whisper 30/60's on my 75 along with a fluval 304. I would recomend a 404 in addition to those two filters for that tank, or sell them off and get an fx5.

I concur with kaisersousay and tcarswell. I say give it a try. Set up your tank with the 2 filters you have.. Cycle it properly, watch your water parameters. If you're still having ammonia/nitrite problems after you cycle, then worry about replacing one of them (or both).
