I'm thinking of building a plywood tank (if my wife lets me), haven't decide on the dimension yet, but the internal dimension will at least be 6x3x2 (8x4x3 is what I'm trying to aim for). it'll be minimum stocked with just one black aro (if I can keep the new fry I'll be getting alive long enough) or a jardini and maybe some convicts or other small fish it can snack on. Will a around 900-1000GPH turnover rate be ok? I know higher turn over rate would be better but want to work with what I have (mag12 pump) instead of buying new equipment, this way has better chance of getting approval from my lady.

for a black or silver you should do 8'x3'x2'...you can mix the silvers and blacks if you so choose to in that tank...i try to stay around 7-10x turnover an hour running through some strong filter media...since it is diy you could make it an overflow system with a waterfall reentry and get great d.o. going on and save on air pumps

Higher turnover rate is great for mechanical filtration but not needed for adequate bio filtration. Since you are planning a low stock level, likely you'll be fine. You can do some tweaking with it once it's up and running.

i forgot it was for one aro...i would still do the high rate cause i like more then one and the op could be kicking theirself for limiting themself on filtration later...cause i don't know about you guys, but me i can't just have one fish in a pond/tank...there must be many fishes:drool:

I could have bunch holes pre-drilled and just plug them until needed.
need to price the budget first to see if it's something I can do now or have to wait for a while.
