I have a 180 gallon and an FX5 in it and I'm planning on adding more filtration. I also have a 55 gallon open top drum. I am thinking of making a diy wet/dry out of it then connecting it to the FX5. That way, I wouldn't have to buy another pump and just use the fx5 to return the water back to the tank. Do you guys think that's a sound idea or should I just put out the money and get an external pump for the diy wet dry?

Thanks.

I would spend the money on another pump. The Fluvals weren't design to pump water against head pressure.

I think you should make the drum into a wet/dry sump for BIO filtration. That AND the FX5 would be some mean filtration.

^Thanks. Would a quietone 4000hh be enough or a stronger pump would be needed?

A 4000 should be fine.

Geronimo, that's the plan.

Thanks pharaoh. I'll get the plumbing done this weekend. Yay for not shelving money for the pump. I also might move the UV from th FX5 output and plumb it into the wet dry system.

It should be in the output of the wet dry right? I was wondering if I can place it in the input of the wet dry?

I'll post photos once its already done Geronimo.
