I've got a 120g thats very different than your ordinary tank. Anyways, it can only accomodate 1 canister filter so which would you recommend? Right now there are 6-7 bloodparots in there with 6 silver dollars and a common pleco so the load isn't that high. The current filter on there is a Eheim 2028 (i think) but after reading all the filtration threads it seems this isn't good enough for a 120g. I just ordered an FX5 to replace the 2028 but was wondering if there are better units out there.

Remembering that I can only have one filter, what filter would you use?

Thanks,
Andrew :)

fx5 Is going to be a ton of filtration for a 120! if your fish are down for that much flow then go for it!

Haha I'm using a pond filter for my 95 works great has a UV sterilizer and barely have to worry about diease and I only do 30% water change every 2 weeks

So an FX5 might be too much? Maybe I was confusing the turnover rates for tanks, lol. Is it that you want 4-10x turnover of tank volume or 4x-10x the filtration?!

Actually, as I'm typing this it's making more sense to me now. I just need a filter that will turnover the tanks volume! =D

Silly me, you think the fish can handle the fx5?

yes, they can.. You can reduce the flow of a fx5 if you want by adding alot of filtermedia so the flow is restricted.

Or alternatively just redirect the flow of the output nozzles to the back of the wall or something.

Rena FilStar Canister Filter...XP3 =350 gph for a 125g tank or the
XP4=400gph for a 250g tank.. alittle pricy but a great filter, a few of my friends own them, i own a Casscade 1500 which is for about a 100g tank. i use it on my 75g
