I have a couple of questions. I have a 65 gal pre drilled tank with a sump. I bought it off a lady and she insisted that it did not need any more media other than a sac of carbon. The water runs out the hole, into a form of a sock (not really a sock though; its tough like a filter) into a 10 gallon and back into the tank through the powerheads. Will this do the trick or no? Also, one more question. Can some walk me through priming a sump pump? Mine didnt keep pumping during the last power outage
THANKS

a sump should have bio balls or scrubbies or other bio media for biological filtration. carbon is only for chemical filtration and needs to be thrown out and replaced often!

There are numerous ways a sump can be plumbed... if you could provide pictures along with a detailed descriptions members could give you suggestions on how to improve the set up...

Sumps have very diverse media options. The flow pattern of your sump itself, the size, flow rate, stock, etc, etc will all influence what would suit you best.

The more detail you can provide us with the more personalized suggestions we can provide you with...

That lady must have been stocked with a single Molly if thats all the media she needed! Give us some pix & stock list so we can point you in the right direction.

I was at a well established pet store today.. They have every kind of fish you can think of. I told them my situation and they said that that is all they do.(drilled tanks with some carbon and maybe chem-pure) I bought some ammo-chips also. In reference to the last owner of the tank.....She had a salt water tank and she used the same setup except used a protein skimmer.
