filtration ?

I plan on reduing my filter setup and was wondering if sand could be used for mechanical and biological filtration. Any suggestions on its use or how it can be incorperrated without being poured out of the filter by the water movement.

also would swamp cooler pads work for filtration?

im pretty sure you have to buy a special sand filter. other wise there wont be enough pressure to push through a good size amount it for most filters.

u need whats known as a fluidized bed filter. u could make one potentially....
