Hello, I have a 140g tank with 2 large oscars and 2 limas. I have a automatic w/c system of 6% a day and i am going to buy a new filter this weekend and i wondered if the FX5 would be large enough ?

If that's your total bio-load you should be ok...you may want to think about a powerhead to help with circulation.

I have read that the FX5 holds 5,9 L of media and is rated for a 400g tank. In my AM-TOP AT-3338 i got 7,5 L of K1 bioballs and is rated for 180g. Why is that? I know the FX5 have more g/h but that cant be critically if you have powerheads.

Well this is a first...I can't find an english site for your filter :screwy: !

Depending on media, manufacturer's slanted spec.s and which way the wind is blowing... there isn't much of a standard to the industry (biologically speaking).

With the wrong media in yours and the best in the FX5 the spec.s could look like that :D . Flow is proportional to effective media / bio-load.

This is why I like building my own W/D's I just over-size to begin with :headbang2 .

are you saying i have the wrong media in my filter? the guys at my lfs say it`s the best media you can get.

Dory, I have an fx5 on my 110 gal. With 1 12" Oscar, 7" GT, 4" GT, 5" JD, 5", Convict, 2 4 1/2" clown loaches, 3" jewel, 2 3 1/2" Tin foils and my water is perfect. Water readings 0 amonia, 0 nirite, 20 nirate. :D

No, not at all...Iwas talking about how some manufactures compare their units to the compitition.

.What media are you using?

with good filtration do you think i can have more fish or is it full?

How comfortable do you want your fish?

If you have too many fish, even if they don't fight, the stress levels from trying to keep their own territories doesn't make for happy fish. I try to keep fish as they are in nature (some of these fish are very solitary).

I don't like an over-stocked tank, too busy when your watching it long term.

GJC, how long have you had all your fish together? (p.s. you need to update your tank pix :D ).
