Fx6 or 30 gallon sump for 160 gallon south American tank??

If the tank is drilled I would go with the sump, if not I would probably go with the fx6 and an ac110. Bioload is really going to determine how much filtration you actually need. What are your plans for stocking?

1Jd, 1Fh, 1Mota,2white saum,2salvini,2firemouth and i ordered a baby dovii all 2-3 inches now

Fx6 is easy to set up but a pita to clean and maintain, I have stopped using canisters due to this.

Your going to have massive aggression issues with your planned stock.
+1

I have owned neither of these, but from my readings of many posts, if the Dovii isn't killed, you'll probably lose a lot of that stock. That's assuming the Parachromis motaguensis hasn't gone on a killing spree already. Not really my type of stocking so I can only post what others have experienced.

!st off that tank only large enough for 1 dovii, alone. When young, its OK for the cichlids as juvies
But as other posters have said, many of your fish will probably kill each other, making room for whatever is left.
Because you already have all but the dovii in the tank, they may attack it and put it out of its misery in such a small tank early, and the dovii will be a non-issue.
If the dovii does make the first week as it grows it will be interesting to see who kills who first.
Be sure to update this thread as deaths occur (or not) to see if we who claim aggression is imminent are just blowing hot air.

Ok i will and forgot about the oscar in thier too.
I have a sunsun on iy now but need more.

What problem are you having with it? I have an FX5 and it's pretty easy to maintain. Just unplug it, drag it out from under the tank and to the sink, pop the top off, pull all the media trays out and rinse. Easy. Maybe a bit much if you're doing it weekly, but mine I only need to clean every 3-4 months.
