I've had my two Gulpers now for a good while.

They have rarely shown any interest in each other beyond the usual 'get out of my way' annoyance.

However, lately, one of them seems to have started to, I would say 'playfully' nip the other one. This is usually on the fins and is done whilst both are hovering belly out towards the front glass. It's kind of a slow grab rather than a 'nip' so perhaps I am wrong in saying nip.

I have also noticed that the fin nipping catfish also seems to be almost circling the other at times.

The only difference in the tank is I added an extremely large amount of bogwood just after Christmas.

Info on these fish has always been hard to find so just wondering on what the opinions are of MFK's members on this.

Anything to worry about? Half hoping it might be breeding but as far as I know, this has never happened in captivity so I doubt it is that.

One of the Gulpers is probably just over 12", the other is around 10". It is the 12" fish that is nipping.

Thanks.

is he hurting the other torn fins and such if not i wouldn't worry about it to much. if he is it might be a taritory thing or he could be hungry. i have seen fish nip each other because thay were hungry my knife will do it to my cats and my pb when he wants food lol. just a thought tho

No torn fins, it's just like a gentle slow bite.

Suppose it could be hunger, a Gulper always seems to be hungry. ;)
