hey guys, i was wondering if any of you guys had experiences when one of your bichirs gets one of his fins nipped off.

that happened today with my longfin senegal... but he can still swim and everything. How long does it take for his fin to regenerate? right now, i did a 50% WC, added aquarium salt and Prime. and i also closed the lights so they wont be stressed.

What fin was it was it a pectoral fin or dorsal? either way i think it will regenerate. my ornate would always get his dorsal fins nipped off (the membrane in between) and they would grow back in a week. But since you said it's a long fin could there be a chance of not being able to regenerate? especially since it deals with the fins. But i think he will be fine. I once had one that both his fins were nipped off he was fine he would just swim with more of his abdomen (like a snake) but since (i'm assuming your talking about pectoral) they naturally use them he will either get rapid blood flow kinda like a scab and it will regenerate that way or he will adapt with it like that.

i had a similar question once and someone linked me here:

i ordered a trio of dels once and the smallest one was missing one of its pectoral fins, like the whole thing with just a stub
and in less than 2 weeks it was growing back and now its the larger of the three.

do you think it might have any defects with the regrowth?

nope, now they're fully regrown and looks like it never happened in the first place :)
i guess it depends on the fish?

Not at all... Salt is one of the best medicine for them...
