How much tail fin can be lost and still grow back? I've currently got a jag missing it's tail and i'm hoping it will grow back.

hate to say it but if its a good chunk in my experience it wont grow back.
I got a beautiful female gt that has had about 1/3 of its tail fin missing since I got her and have kept her in good conditions for 6 months or so and have seen no improvemnt its too bad cause she has a bright orange tail

Often depends on how much haed ray damage there is.I have a female Motag,that had half Her tail eaten and it has almost completely grew back
my 2 uaru had little stumps left when i got them at 1" and now they have fully grown tails at 5" with no scarring. the tails took a while to grow back , about 2 months with melafix, and i think people under estimate the resiliance of a young fish. just like our own children they often bounce back with a full recovery.
try melafix and w/c twice a week for a couple of months and it should be fine unless he is an old fish or like the others say the damage is extreme.
