I know its not an expensive fish but my Fantail has some bad fin rot along with the other fish seemed to have been trying to take him out of the game, within 2 days most of his fins are shredded :( i dont know what to do really, i have isolated him and now it seems to me like there is a bladder infection or something, he is stuck on his side. i have stopped feeding him and im trying to keep the water very clean, almost 60% each time. i have money but i need knowledge! this was a fish i got after my father got roofied ( lol guess the name ) so its kinda an important fish. i have a little container i added like 1/16th of a teaspoon of un-iodized salt to with some warm water ( stirred ect ect ) added maybe a tablespoon to the tank every 8 hours. what should i do!? even if someone could text me to tell me what to do! just need help ASAP! idk how much longer he will make it!

What was/is the ammonia level? Fin rot is generally caused by poor water quality. Keep his water clean, raise the temp a bit and continue to add salt. Sounds like ammonia poisoning

i will have to grab a test kit! how can i make sure he lives a little longer till i can fix it all?? i used our filter'd water ( brand new triple filtration system ) for his isolation tank and just finished adding the last of that salt water.

what do you mean "he is stuck on his side"? describe that better.

hes on his side, breathing and cant swim hardly his left side near his tail is swollen and his right fin is mostly gone, hes still got enough where he could recover it almost 70% im sure ( enough where he could adapt just fine ) but he cant really move up or down his tail holds him off the base of the tank about half an inch from it and he sometimes moves and gets about an inch up but ends up sinking slowly back down where his tail holds him off the base again. hes sideways, belly where his side should be and top fin where his other side should be

Filtered water isnt normally the best thing either. If it was RO/DI water it wont support life. You do have to add back mineral and content to make it useable.

Best bet is standard water.

It can also be a secondary infection caused by most any other stress. I have seen aggression in fish even trigger it that have been attacked. Ive seen it happen during or after other disease or parasites as well Such as Ich. Water conditions can cause it as well to and you are correct. Just curious if any other illness has led up to this issue.

this is a goldfish?
how many gallons is he in now?
does it have any circulation, and did the tank he was in before have filtration or what?
what kind of fish beat him up?

it was just some other cheap ass goldfish ( asian carp lookin one, no spots ect just straight yellow ) i used it to add more color to the tank, it was about a 2.5 gallon tank with 2 gold fish. not really any circulation i changed water about every 4-5 days 30-40% swaps, no filtration...i was going to introduce it into my big tank soon ( roofie not the cheap one ) , this is the first issue Roofies had and its been since i brought home the other one. i swapped out the water with my other container i had sitting with just regular water ( sat for 24 hours now ) i was in the middle of getting ready to change their water when i noticed roofie couldnt even move. took the cheap gold fish stuck him in an isolation tank as well, cleaning the 2.5 as of now.
