hey every one i have a 4-5 inch gar and 3-4 inch tiger shovel nose catfish that it looks lik they got finrot fraying edges on the gars back fin and on the cats top fin. i just got theese guys a few weeks ago, all my other fish are fine that have been in the tank for a few months. what should i do i have a 10 gal tank cycling right now and some melafix. should i move them to the ten gal and throw the melafix in it to heal them up or wait it out??

what are their tank mates? fins being split ect is often a sign of aggression. what are yiur water perameters? poor water quality will also cause these issues... i would do a water change and go from there.

tank mates are some african cichlids i watch the tank all the time and have not seen any aggresssion towards them. im guessing the water quality should i do 50% waterchanges daily till its fixed. il have the water checked tomorrow.

cichlids and gars equals no no

99% sure its aggression. gar will need a large tank as will the catfish. and in the end make poor tankmates themselves.

thanks didnt even know that i guess its their time to go ti the fish store i have 2 red jewels 2 kenyi a yellow lab and 2 blue dolpins all smaller thought it was okay because i didnt see any aggression.
Most times, the aggression doesn't start until the lights go out. Those fish are going to be easy targets just based on their size.
I would get everyone separated and go from there. I disagree with gar and catfish making poor tankmates though. It's going to depend on aquarium size, species, hiding place availability, food supply, etc... There are a ton of variables.

Ya the gar and tsn are fine! I would take the cichlids out
