Hi guys,

I am sorta new to fish keeping. I think my fish has fin rot and I am not exactly how to treat it properly other than applying the meds I bought. Can anyone advise me on the proper treatment and go about helping the fish recover? It’s sucks to see my fishs fin not as pretty as they were when bought.
additionally, I also done frequent water changes and added aquarium salt. Not much improvements atm.
thank you so much in advance if someone can guide me.

Hey there, welcome to the hobby. Glad to have you on board. So for starters those Nitrate levels are high. Not to fret. Just start with water changes. Either every other day or three days. We want this water to be as clean as possible. Fin rot is usually from poor water quality. Not to bombard with questions but; What is the tank size? What is the filtration used? Also fin rot can be from excess stress. As fish keepers, what we strive for is as little stress as possible. I have also heard of people using Indian Almond leaves/catapa, as those relieve tanins, which are helpful for the immune system. That is just what I have heard, they seem to help IME. But also I have a lot of experience with using Vitachem. It is very good at helping rejuvenate the fins. goodluck, but also listen to what the others have to say about it, do not take my words as gospel.

Hey, looks like u have a parrot. Add a hide, parrots love hides. Definitely get rid of that ammonia and nitrite with water changes and dechlor. Doesn't look too bad. Change out the whole tank once per week (fin level).

Thank you so much for the details! I will sure purchase the vitachem. I read the instructions quickly and it mentions to add a few drops to the food for feeding. I am currently using melafix to stop the fin from rotting. honestly I am not entirely sure if I am detecting the issues and providing them with medications correctly. I have a 75 gallon using and 110 gallon aquaclear filter with a sponge filter. I only have 6 fishes in the tank. Please let me know if that is sufficient or how I should modify my tank set up. thank you so much!!!

It’s all good man… everything is about learning. Heck last night I learned not to move tanks with water in em even if it’s just an inch!😂 regardless, you don’t need to soak the food as fish can absorb it through water, but it’s better if it is in the food because it will get into the fish’s system much quicker. Can you tell me what other fish there are? Do you run carbon? How big is your sponge filter?

Yes, like you said the fins are not too bad. It’s not to the point where I’d say massive water change and meds. More decorations the better. Sorry I meant to say this above

IMO, meds aren't even necessary right now. Just clean water! Fish are amazing they way they heal sometimes. Adding unnecessary meds can stress fish and cause them to lose appetite.

Sounds like a good setup.

good hides for parrots when they grow larger

Zoo Med sinking log, large or extra large available on amazon and ebay.
