I have an established 125 gal. planted tank that I was turning into an angel tank.

I started buying different batches of angels (small sizes) about 3-4 at a time. Every week I was putting some more fish in (not wanting to add to much at once.

Well the last group I added must os had fin rot. They looked fine when I bought them but just those guys started dying off. 1 a day. Then after those died I start to notice the fins on my other starting to look a little raggy and fuzzy.

So instead of treating 125 gallons, I took the 6 angels I have left and put them into a 10 gal and have been treating them with Maracyn.

Why question is do I need to still treat my 125? I still have some clown loaches & pleco's in there that seem to be fine.

If I do need to treat the 125 will it hurt the plants.

Any advise would be appreciated.

If the other fish are not showing fin rot I would not yet treat the tank except by adding 1 tablespoon salt per 5 gallons of water. I would monitor the fish for early signs of infection. If any of the other fish start showing signs of damage I would then treat the tank using a broadspectrum antibiotic such as tetracycline. The antibiotics don't usually effect plants but you need to seperate your filter from the tank during treatment and do water changes to keep up with the ammonia. The only time I have had problems with fin rot was with new fish or injuries. Good water conditions usually prevent it's spread among healthy fish.

the first thing you need to determine is the water quality. if the water is ok ie.. ph 6.5-7.2, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite <50ppm nitrate, treat the sick fish only in a hospital tank... use a stronger antibotic like a sufa based drug or a nitrofurazone based drug, they wil be the most effictive..triple sulfa or furan 2, also Binox by aquapharm is the great disese destroyer. if you end up treating the tank with these to cure the whole stock of fish be very careful, the totally destroy bad and good bacteria types. If you need more help holla at me
