Ok, I've made my final decision on how I want to stock my 210 gallon (7'x2'x2').

1- Carpintis Escondido
1- Barred Midas
1- Zonatum
1- C. spectabilis
1- Lyonsi
1- Synspilum
1- Parachromis La Ceiba "Yellow Head"
1- Pearsei
3-Tinfoil Barbs

Is this overstocked? I'll be filtering with an FX5. If overstocked, the only fish on this list that I wouldn't mind doing without is the pearsei.

Final, lol, good luck with that. Everyone says they have their final stocking then they change it a million more times, but that's ok. It sound like an ok stocking to me. I would want another filter just to be safe, but thats just me.

I don't think you'll have enough filtration. The water flow of the FX5 slows down as filtration material gets filled with debris.

Lol, no this is my final FINAL FINAL list. I'm placing an order this week. You would use more filtration for a 210 than an fX5? fx5's are rated for up to 400 gallons right?

Yeah they are but we're monster fish keepers and go extreme with our tanks.

Hmm... so 2 fx5s then?

Personally I would go with 2 FX5's with that kind of stocking.

I have a similar tank to yours, a 7' x 2' x 2.5' and have a 4' x 18" x 18" wet dry sump with 2 large bioball chambers pushing 1800gph and an FX5.

I couldn't agree more. One fx5 is not going to get close to cutting it for that stock list unless you plan on doing large water changes every other day. Your stock list is pretty heavy, it might very well work but I would do at least 2 fx5 and maybe another filter. Just as an example I have an fx5, xp4, and a large sump rated for 400 gallon on my 220g. You have to remember that those filters are rated for community fish and tanks that are lightly stocked. Generally for large cichlids you want close to 5 times what they are rated for. Two fx5's will get you to 4 times and be pretty close.

Cool thanks for the replies... so as far as the stocklist, does this seem ok doable aggression and territory wise?

That's up to the indivdual fish. I think that's what jmart.cooper was saying in the second post. You'll have to probably change up fish a few times to find a compatible group. For example, one Carpintis might be a complete trouble maker but switch it out for another one of the same exact size and it could work out fine. Every fish even of the same species will have it's own level of aggression and tolerance of tankmates. GL.

if ur getting the fish small enough they can learn to aclimate themselves to each and essentially make a pecking order in the tank to a certain degree. As is stated before, every fish has its own personality and as they grow older only time will tell. GL with the tank and Nice stock list
