What you mean is more of a target fish from what I understand. It's my fault with all of this dither confusion. As Bderick stated, a dither draws out a shy fish, targets are more of a "distracter."

I voted giant danios because they would suit your tank size well and will add some action like you want. However, I'd get 5, not 3. 3 would not be a large enough group and would quickly be eaten.
Tinfoils would grow too large and I don't think exodons would be a good idea...

I just dropped 7 Giant Danios in my tank today to get my albino red oscar out a little more. He is a bit shy and gets chased around by my other oscar and gold saum when he is hiding.

giant danios and tiger barbs for young cichlids and silver dollars and tinfoil barbs for large cichlids i don't like useing exodons as dithers i've seen them give even big cichlids ragged fins and missing scales how ever i hear they make great dithers for african cichlids

just looked at your other thread so its for a breeding pair of texas ? if so why did you get rid of the convict idea a few females convicts would work better then all the other fish you listed convicts make very good dithers

i really like tinfoils. that's what i used to keep other fish off my aro when it was a couple inches smaller. they did a great job

in other threads i mentioned shoaling fish. I forgot to even mention using tough little cichlids as dithers. Convicts make great dithers for larger cichlids aslong as they can't make a meal out of them.

Either use silver dollars, giant danios or convicts. How big is the tank your texas's are breeding in?

Giant Danios and tiger barbs are great choices.
