The Real Norcal
I recently purchased a good number of juvenile fish in an attempt to grow them out together and see if they can work for life.

As of now they are in a 75 (for merely month or two) and I have a pond being set up for them currently. The only things the pond is waiting for actually is a heater and for me to figure out something to keep any inhabitants from escaping.I dont know how many gallons the pond is but it is about 6 feet long,3 feet wide, and 2 feet deep.

I dont want the fish to live in the pond forever really.just grow out till I can afford their final tank, but if the final tank they are going to need is going to be too pricey then pond fish they are.

I realize some of the fish are a bit more passive than others (O and sev) but they are all fine now and ive seen awesome setups accomplished if all tankmates are raised from babies.

Anyhow the current stocklist is this:

Oscar 3"
JD 3"
Green sev. 4"
BGK 8"
Jag 2"
Pike (Xingu I) 2.5"
TSN 4"
Green terror 3"
Peacock bass 3.5"
Silver aro 6"
TT eel 12"
D.Bichir 6"

PS: I was gonna put this in sa/ca cichlids but theres other stuff so I wasnt sure......

270 should be good for awhile no?I could maybe squeeze about a year out of it,or am I completely mistaken?your a fairly knowledgable fish keeper, del,do you figure a 350-400 gallon tank is an acceptable final tank size?

PS:I also have a 3" FH I forgot to add.

oops my bad :D

you list of fish sounds ok, its will be dicey though because some of those fish may not go well together based on there disposition.

The only fish i would take off that list is the tsn, it is capable of eating all of those fish very easily.

your 270 will last a very long time, and a 400 gallon will be a great permanent tank :D

but put alot of emphasis on the width, dont make it taller than it is wider!!

Noticed you were in NorCal. What part? You might have trouble heating your pond considering your location and the amount of water your heating. Your electricity bill might be kinda high?

I would also be careful of the aro jumping out, as well as birds, raccoons and other animals getting into your pond.

p.s. hope we can play starcraft one day! LOL

thanks for the confirm. woot! :headbang2

I live in Redding actually,so I'm ot too worrried about heating it,just wondering about evaporation.we keep it pretty warm in the house so I figure If we open the sliding door evap. shouldnt be too bad?

I really like the TSN,is there any chance of me being able to keep the TSN full so that he might not consider snacking on his tankmates?(working in the kitchen at the Hilton,I'm pretty sure I can take on the daunting task of keeping one full....)

If not would a Lima be a good replacement?

GR8,were gonna play us some SC at some point,PM me whenever you have time for a game, seems like lately if I'm not at work I'm usualy just sitting around the house.

I could see the TSN working if you buy it small while the other fish are bigger perhaps....or maybe not? lol

errr, maybe now is a good time to mention that I already have said stocklist in my possesion?LOL

I suppose the best thing I can do now is just keep an eye on em' if the TSN gets out of hand Ill replace him with a Lima.

Other than that the only scuffles are between the JD and the Oscar.
