Apparently Diamondback Terrapin’s are native to New York, not only that but apparently all the species of the genus Terrapene are listed as endangered here. Me picking up the turtle in the first place was technically illegal!

I spoke to a wildlife representative and they told me it would be perfectly fine to release it back into the wild. I just came from the beach, she is back in the wild.

I rescued something that did not need to be rescued!

all is good and yes was a good cause

Still seems very early in the season, makes me wonder if it was washed out of the winter burrow.

good job

In reptiles magazine they had an article on diamondbacks recently and it said that most of them dont make it past the baby stage due to predation. I would have liked to raise up all of the little guys in captivity to preserve these cool terrapins.
I also read that there are many types of diamondbacks all down the east coast.
The one you found looked like a female to me.
