Scored a wolf fish today for $8! JUST added a bunch of driftwood to the tank too so he'll have lots of hiding places. I'm just hoping he doesn't decimate my stock. He'll have his work cut out for him with an Oscar and a pair of adult JD's.

Nice wolf! Unfortunately, if your wolf is the same size as the oscar and JD then he won't have a problem tearing them up tonight. I strongly advise keeping the wolffish separately as eventually the wolf will be the only fish in the tank if not too small initially.

bargain pickup! i doubt they will be able to co hab in the long run but you never know - each fish is different. good luck!

I doubt that wolf will kill those cichlids, they usually won't risk getting hurt unless they feel threaten. I'm not saying there wont be any aggression but it's safe to say that combo will work out. Since you have a lot of driftwood the wolf will probably mind his own, worse you will see is probably flareing & chasing. Now if you plan on putting another wolf thats a different story

I'm glad to hear the encouragement on the tankmates. I'm a little scared of letting him into the main tank. He's in QT for the moment. The LFS had him on worms so at least he isnt used to eating fish. I read one thread saying they dont get super aggressive until they're about a foot. Any thoughts on that one?

that's true, at that size they are big enough to take on most of your average fish but that doesn't mean they will kill everything. My cichla are still bite size for my wolves yet the wolves think twice about attacking when the cichla flares. My wolves often fight but only with eachother & sometimes it gets brutal, one of my malas lost his upper lip but grew back.

Cool. Over the night he colored up nicely and is quite dark now. There is an old, beaten up silver dollar in with him that is about his size and was untouched at least last night.
