Hi All,

I've been pouring over this site and absorbing as much info as I can regarding dats. I couldn't find any locally, so I made a long road trip to Rich AKA Infinite Aquatics. I picked up 4 X 6" NGTs. They were a little shy at Rich's place.

I was torn about providing them cover as I am of the practice... if you give them cover they will hide.

I did give in and set up a network of caves for them from various pieces of driftwood. They still are a little shy and they managed to chow down on one of the orignal occupants; Chinese Hi-fin. My fault really, I was too lazy to move him and figured he'd be safe for the moment. I guess when the lights are off they become nocturnal killers. I'm shying away from feeders and trying to get them on Beefheart and Shrimp. In between that they readily accept live California Black Worms.

Here's a shot of their new home:

One shot of my camera shy Dat.. the others were hiding.

I love the driftwood/anubias combo. I use the same in my tanks.
Give the NGT's some time and theyll be swimming around when they feel more comfortable. A bigger top swimming fish might also make them feel more at ease. GL with the new dats! ;)

GL with them.

Beautiful fish :)
Some more pics would be nice

Are they fighting a lot?

I’ve read in someone’s post about lamenting the fact that their dats hide 12/7. Thought it was a type-o and he meant 24/7. Now I know what he means. My dats are fine but they still hide during the day and at night they become more active. This is the only time I see them swimming about the tank and fighting with each other. During the day they stay huddled under their favorite piece of driftwood and don’t bother each other. In addition to the 4 NGTs, I also added a HUGE royal pleco, one big bichir and some clown loaches.

I’ve been feeding them California Black worms and last night I broke down and fed them some feeders to bring em’ out a bit. It was fun to watch them stalk their prey and gulp em’ up. As far as pictures are concerned, it’ll be difficult since they hide for most part of the day and come out at night. I’m thinking of adding some dithers to give them more confidence.

I've got 8 IT's in a tank with some Decor but not that much and they are always out and stable and they range from 1.5-2".
