looks like it's doing it lightly. Little by little if it continues she can still become a full or semi fader. But yeah I see it happening but it's very subtle.

And Cichlids change from rainbow to dark storm by moods so it's even harder to judge on hybrids especially by seeing only one mood.

I think the fading process has more to do with aggression levels more than anything else.

My fish waited until 10" before he started to fade. He was brought up in a community tank and was low on the pole. In fact I thought it was a female because it was so dark all the time. He is still fading now after 6 months but a little every day turns.

I also picked up what I thought was a kirin parrot that was brought back to Petco by a customer that 10 of them. This was a 4-5" female getting picked on which is why they returned it. I wanted to try it with my fader which seemed to work for for the first night. The next morning the fader did not think she was very pretty any longer and I removed her to my clown loach tank.
Once in the clown loach tank it started to fade in less than a day and has now turned almost half orange.
It did start to bother my loaches after a week so I took it back to the store where I got it.

It might even still be there but I have not been back in since.

Fading does have to do with agression, in fact it is an expression of dominance. The alpha male always fades first. So do whatever you can to make you fish the alpha, and you can help the fading process.

However I have a rt that is almost 7 inches now and is still black, its been looking like it will turn orange tomorrow for a couple years now... I am not sure if he will ever fade fully. But in the mean time he is black with pearl spot
