my cons finally had fry. pretty excited. but i always thought the male and female kept an eye on the fry together. the male hides in the castle on the left and the female stays w/ the fry in the cave on the left. is that normal. or is he a dead beat dad that's gonna eat the baby's?
The male will also protect the fry if they need protecting, but since I see no other fish he doesn't need to do much protecting. I bet if you stuck your hand in the tank the male will let you know not to get near them.
i'll take your word for it. i never even saw the eggs in there, i went to clean the tank and saw the fry. i think she's got him on lock down, or he's ditchen' out on the child rearing. he never comes out of the castle. she's only half his size.
I have that problem with a particular pair of severums....daddy keeps the mom away and he tends the eggs. More than likely he did something that appeared to be a threat to the mom....in my case the mom was trying to remove bad eggs....I guess dad thought she was trying to eat them.
Should be no problem as long as each accepts their place.
