After months of looking someone posted THREE big 48" tanks....bidding ended last night.....I picked up the largest tank that can fit my space without having one custom built....150 gallon with Brushed Aluminum trim....48x24x30.....Maybe not a monster to you all but big enough for my daughter to swim in! Now I just need a stand, more lights, more sand and a second heater....:headbang2

Anyone telling you a 150 gallon tank isn't a monster is an elitist snob. To 95% of the general population, a 55 gallon is a huge tank and a 150 is like a pool!

Congrats on your winning bid. P/U I assume. Shipping that would be some crazy money.

Have you ever had a tall tank like that? My 220 is the same dimensions except 72" wide. The 30" depth can be a pain. You will need a good step stool or 6' ladder.

And that is a great price!
Thanks! I plan on getting my arms wet a lot! The overall scope of the tank should make it well worth the trouble!

It has one acrylic over flow built in.....and the back is drilled....have not decided whether to use the existing plumbing or bypass....Very psyched!

Great tank! If you are looking to buy rather than make a stand, some Petsmarts have their 48x24 stands on clearance. At two of my local stores, the stand is just inside the store entrance with a 150g tall sitting on it. Just a thought... :)

Natalie - I am always suspect on factory stands. I have used them, but with some major overhaul. My 220 stand is the factory All Glass brand one. It had 1x6 supports! This thing will weigh > 1 ton on 1x6's?? I added about $25 worth of 2 x 6 to strengthen it. Maybe it wasn't necessary, but its all about peace of mind! Most of my complete DIY stands would hold a truck.

Make sure it is real wood and not just pressed particle board. When that gets wet, it will be bad news! How many stands never get wet? Anything with camshaft fastners is no-go. Real wood is key.

BTW - awesome fish on your avatar.

Chef - I would use the overflo box and set-up a sump. You can DIY one for not too much money. The pump will be the biggest expense. Check out the DIY section. You can load them with biological filteration. I tend to prefer canisters for mechanical, but aproperly designed sump is hands down the best for bio filteration.
