They look nice though..

The yellow acara isnt very yellow right now. The little yellowish one you see is the rainbow. They are very active and happy in the tank right now. In a few weeks they should color up better.

is yellow acara common name for A.metae?
Yes it is , but that Metae looks different from mine.

Or is it just me?

Your metae is the one in the middle right? Thats how mine looks but the color is off a little. Probably stress and not a proper diet etc, these pics were taken like an hour after they were released into the aquarium. In the 1st pic the metae/yellow is on top above the 2 other fish. The metae is also in the 3rd pic of mine in the middle. In the same pic, fish on the right is the blue acara and fish on the left is the rainbow cichlid.

How big is your metae/yellow?

4 inch-ish , and very shy. They seem to prefer more subdued lighting and need hiding spots. Mine has claimed a small cave and rarely ventures far from it if the lights are on. With them of he's all over the tank.

Nice fish! They look young, and that may be why there colors are showing. Or if they are new, it could be stress, which which will get better as they settle in.

I believe that is a Aequidens diadema, not a metae.
he looks alot like a Diadema when in certain moods(like in the photo) , but normally the spot isn't nearly as prominant , and he's got a darker cast to him when he's in a normal mood. It's hard to get good pics of him like that because of his shyness. Also he's a bit more greenish than yellow with redish pectoral fins. There is some suggestion on another site that he may in fact be something else .'Aequidens' sp. Jenaro Herrera is currently the contender for possible ID. I admit that the Metae ID is a little shakey at the moment but in the absence of a 100% ID I'm sticking with Metae.
