He's just a baby at 4Inches, was sold to me as an alligator gar, though I think he is a florida or spotted. Got him for $15USD, which is a steal in my book.

Take some close ups of its snout from the top and sides. Alligator gar have a shorter broader snout..
I'm just glad to have a gar, besides.. I'm kind of glad it's not a gator, cause I just don't have the room for something like that. Plus I expected as much when I went to pick him up, most LFS don't know the difference between gars.
He's already eating like a little pig, which is good for his first day in his temp home, he's in my 10 gallon until I get another tank for my big boys! Then he'll go in my 40 gallon for awhile, until he is big enough to put in with my bigger fish.

this is either a Florida or shortnose gar...most likely the former, definitely not a gator gar. good luck with it; keep it well fed and keep up with water changes and it will grow quickly for you--

I'm hoping he will eat blood worms or brine shrimp, because the closest LFS that sells guppies is 45 minutes away. He's nearly devoured all of those guppies already and I got a lot of them.
