Finally got my dream fish, Bichir

Because of my awesome bf i finally had the opportunity to set up a 55 for some bichir :D

So far just 2 because they'll get a little over a foot or so. I want more though XD

Just a senegal bichir we dubbed herby, herb derb. He was a bit beat up from the petsmart we found him at, oscars ate his fins. He's probably grown at least an inch if not more since april 20th when we took him home

Recently picked up a delhezi, tiny tiny guy. I was worried he may get eaten but so far so good. Starting to fatten up and feel more at home, we named him\her harry.

Also in the tank are 8 small various tiger barbs, a whip tail plecostamous that gives no ****s (he was in with african chiclids, fire queen loved his tail) and 1 african spotted leaf fish named penny

awesome! i remember my first senegal i got him as a baby at petsmart and he is now 9" i have 3 senegals now called edgar, allen and poe haha
 
Welcome to the Poly addiction. That sounds like a fun tank, do remember delhezis get fairly large, generally in the 15-16inch range in most cases if not slightly longer. Mine went from 4.5" to pushing 11" in a little over 6 months give or take. Might want to look into a nice 150+ gallon because believe me it won't stop at 2 polys hahaha.

I think you might be getting your polys mixed up...... I HAVE NEVER seen a del at 15-16"s. CB dels tend to taper at 10"s.......

Delhezis will most likely max around 10"-12" haven't seen one 15"-16" so it'd be a first. To the OP I would suggest watching the pleco. They are known to cause problems for bichirs. As far as senegals it might reach a foot but 8"-10" is more realistic. So your tank could be a tank for life, but an upgrade at some point would be ideal. Also once they are larger the tank mates being smaller community fish may be targeted. Anyway enjoy, because they only get more addicting haha

Yay, wellcome to the addiction, I remember when I got my first senegalus.

Wish my del's would grow to 15", unfortunately they have maxed out at ~10" like most CB ones will.
 
Like frank said it's always nice to get ur dre fish ... I got mine thanks to him:) a big ole pbb bichir lol ...... And dude has a freak of nature del apparently lol iv had mine for 3 years and it's only 9" lol
 
And also u should heed the advice of lookin into a 150 gal atleast cause u won't stop at 2 bichirs lol we all said that we would at the beggining ..... But 10 bichirs later lol
