I've been wanting a snake for a while now and kept reading and reading, and finally I got one.

I traded away my big female polli for a 40g herp cage. I miss that bichir :( but it's worth it.

I got a baby amel corn. It was the calmest one in the crowded tank, and it was more colorful than the other amel in there.

It only took a couple hours to settle in and it started exploring the tank :)

Aww it's cute. We have none in New Zealand, would love one.

Are they illegal there or just not imported? These things breed easily and with all the different cultivars there are, if you managed to get your hands one some you could really big a big name in the herp scene out there!

congrats! looks like you started out very nicely. i'd give that little guy more hides though.

Thank you, it really pays to research thoroughly before getting a pet. To be honest, I wasn't planning to have the snake so soon, I was going to wait until the anaheim show in sept, I was just being curious about the corns they had at a local petco.

When I saw them though and I held one for the first time, I felt bad because they were crowded and had no hides so they stuffed themselves under the water dish. The normal hatchlings kept tagging me, but this little one was calm and active so I couldn't stop myself from taking him with me.

I will be adding more hides today and I'll post up an update :)

cool pic up good luck and be carefull those guys are excape artes

I know I was worried about that. When I was checking out different vivs, i was surprised at how flimsy some were. This one is a Zilla 40g I got from RexFish. It has clamps on both sides, and a lock in the front.

As long as I make sure to lock it up every time, I should be fine. I'm a forgetful kind of guy though haha :grinno:

That's a cool progression! What kind of gecko did you keep?

When I held the baby I was very surprised at how much is instantly wrapped around my fingers, it's very fun to hold :)

Thank you dde, I hope it grows to have a lot of orange and not much white, I really like those bright orange amels :)

I'm sure it is hungry :( The guy at the petco said that one employee handles the herps and he feeds them once a week only, which is okaay I guess but I would prefer twice weekly.

I'm going to give him 3 days to settle in but I have to get food in it's belly.

I held him up to the light at teh store and he definitely has some feces in him, there was a dark spot near the arse haha

Nice snake. Yeah, ditto on what everyone else said about making sure the cage is secure and adding more hides, etc.

I usually feed my little corn every 5-6 days. Basically, whenever he's pooped and is crawling around looking for food, I feed him again.
